Vega

The difficult in the simple

In Vega just south of Stockholm, Wester+Elsner has designed a building for three tenants for W-Invest Fastigheter.

On a highly visible plot next to the road, but with an irregular shape and the entrance at the back, three commercial premises have been integrated into a new building. The desire was that the premises would have given sizes based on the specific needs of the tenants despite the building’s cut-off rear corner. They would also be given equal entrances, evenly spaced on the entrance facade, which made the seemingly simple design task more interesting and a little more difficult.

Combined with the municipality’s requirement for a pleated roof and a design language inspired by hangars, this gave the building its appearance. The color was adapted to an existing car wash facility on the property.

To give the impression of hangar doors, we developed a motif with horizontally oriented sinusoidal corrugated sheet metal above the glass sections of the entrance floor. Surrounded by a metal framework, the whole resembles a half-raised, much higher roller door. On the entrance side, the tenants were given the opportunity to put their own stamp on the frames.
