LILJEHOLMSTORGET NAMED STOCKHOLM’S FAVOURITE – AGAIN!

For the eighth year in a row Liljeholmstorget has been named the best district centre in Evimetrix’s survey ‘Stockholmers’ favourite centre’.

“It is so satisfying that our work still has such an impact,” says Fredrik Elsner, CEO of Wester + Elsner Architects, who designed the shopping centre on behalf of Citycon.

Liljeholmstorget was built in 2009 and is a great example of a modern district centre that has been designed to meet the needs of residents and visitors with communication links, shopping, community services, work and recreation all gathered in one place. Today, just over ten years later, it still continues to deliver for Stockholmers.

Best district centre

For the eighth time in a row Liljeholmstorget’s shopping centre has been named Stockholm’s best district centre in Evimetrix’s annual market survey, after more than 1,600 Stockholmers responded to an online survey.

“We are very proud of Liljeholmstorget and the amazing collaboration that led to it. That it continues to be a vibrant district centre that residents appreciate is the best reward we can have”, says Ivar Kandell, one of the architects who worked on the project.

Work continues in 2020

Citycon continues to develop Liljeholmen, and has put together a ‘dream team’ of architects with a range of special expertise. Wester + Elsner Architects is at the helm and responsible for overseeing the project. In 2018 the building authorities gave the go-ahead for the start of detailed planning work for the upcoming expansion, which will be implemented over the next few years. The Metro tracks will be covered to create additional space for housing, workplaces, community services, trade and culture.

“We look forward to putting even more pieces of the puzzle in place to create a vibrant city scene at Liljeholmen,” said Fredrik Elsner.
