Kvarteret Loke 24 in Västerås

Kvarteret Loke 24 - Västerås

The first out of Klövern’s investments into Västerås city centre is the southeast corner of the Loke district. This big first step is one of several investments in Västerås City.

The Loke 24 district covers approximately 11,000 sq.m. and is part of the Gallerian shopping centre, which until now has stretched out over the district on three levels. This redevelopment, which is part of a new overall strategy for the city, means an increased investment on the street level and the city as a whole, with renewed traffic flows and an impressive new entrance on the corner of Kopparbergsvägen-Stora Gatan. Existing footbridges spanning streets to neighbouring properties have been demolished. Houses are being given completely new facades from top to bottom, and the area is being given a substantial investment package of care facilities, jobs and services.

Västerås is one of Sweden’s oldest cities. It is also the country’s sixth largest urban area and is growing at an amazing pace. At the end of 2021 Västerås will also become a university city, with Mälardalen University being upgraded to university status. The city’s development is broadly taking place in three districts; the transformation of the city centre, the densification and conversion of the eastern part of the city (from business areas to mixed city use) and finally Mälarporten – the new city by the water, which was formerly a port and industrial region. Mälarporten will also be the location for the new travel centre. Our assignments for Klövern are primarily focused on the transformation of the southern city centre known as ‘CBD’, and the development of the Sigurd district in the area south of Resecentrum in the new Mälarporten district.

In partnership with Corem we are working to create a new vision for the entire southern city, with the goal of recreating a vibrant city centre. It’s a significant investment to inject new life into the area, with broader, more diversified content, concentrated flows and thriving street life at its core. Our various assignments range from small “here and now” tenant sketches to large upcoming renovation projects and new zoning plans.
